So by now you all know of what Dr. Ben Carson said in reference to gay marriage. In the talk he said he doesn't believe that what marriage has meant in society shouldn't be changed. That no one should be able to change those set norms.
He likened gay marriage to pedophilia and to bestiality.
Now to be fair he did come out to say that he did not mean it like that even though he fucked up with what he said.
I do now that Ben Carson has many close personal gay friends and family and he loves and supports them all.
I know someone who knows Ben Carson who says that he is the least homophobic person around. He has really close gay friends, colleagues, students, and family members.
My view is that Ben Carson is part of the ranks of those who say marriage should be between a man and a woman. They of course take sometimes a religious POV and there are others who just come out and say the truth. Marriage for them has always been between a man and a woman...why change now.
I mentioned before that the religious issue is really about Holy Matrimony vs. Marriage. We gotta get over the semantics and start to differentiate.
But I think the main thing is that LGBT want the chance to marry the person they love outside of the religious institutions and there are those who do want to marry because of the religious side of things.
I think gay marriage should be legal because of the rights it gives people. There is no reason why my friends cannot have health insurance, life insurance, and all the other rights afforded to straight married folks. Especially those who have been together for 10+ years.
No one can say anything with all the straight and church folk getting married and fucking up, but you got LGBT couples doing it all. Just gotta start to think more about what is going on in the world today and stop locking ourselves in prisons of our own making.
I could throw some scriptures out, but not my style. ;-)
